Mr. Carney is a member of the editorial board of The Wall Street Journal. He previously served as the editor of the editorial page for The Wall Street Journal Europe and of the Journal Europe's Business Europe column. In 2003, he received the Frederic Bastiat Prize for Journalism.

Before joining the Journal as an editorial writer in February 2000, he worked for the Innovations in American Government Program at Harvard University. He has also worked as a sternman on a lobster boat in Maine. He has a master's degree in philosophy from Boston University and a bachelor's from Yale.
